University Lectureship or Assistant Lectureship in Politics

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship or Assistant Lectureship in
Politics. The successful candidate should have an interest in the politics of the
modern state and in the conceptual and theoretical issues that arise in understanding
these. Applications are welcome from those with an interest in a particular aspect of the
politics of modern states, the politics of a particular state or set of states, or
international politics.
The appointment will be made depending on the age and experience of the person.
Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the
first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable
scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is 20,811 a year, rising by eleven annual
increments to 32,095. Lecturers are eligible for promotion through the University's
scheme to Senior Lectureships, personal Readerships or Professorships.
Appointments made at University Assistant Lecturer level will be for three years with the
possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure
of a University Assistant lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of
University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of
University Lecturer during the course of their tenure. The pensionable scale of stipends
for a University Assistant Lecturer is 17,238 a year, rising by six annual
increments to 22,579.

The Department of Political Science invites applications for a tenure track poisition at
the rank of Assistant Professor Commencing in late August 2001.
A completed Ph.D. is expected. Applicants' theoretical perspectives should be broad enough
to enable comparisons in teaching and research of industrial democracies including Western
Europe / European Union. Applicants should send a statement of interest, vita,
transcripts, three letters of reference, and samples of their written work. The
candidate's methodological skills and theoretical interests should be reflected in written
work.
The committee will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2000. Women, minorities and

EMDS Careers in Germany will take place in Berlin for the third time from the 29th to the
31st of October 2000 and will provide candidates of all disciplines with the chance to be
interviewed by approximately 40 internationally oriented, renowned companies in Germany
(AT Kearney, Betelsmann, Deutsche Telekom, DaimlerChrysler Servicesn Ubfineon among others
have already confirmed their participation).
Candidates must be able to speak German, have a degree or be about to complete one, have
no more than 7 years work experience and be available for employment within the next six
months. If they are German nationals they should have spent more than three years outside
Germany.
